Parmelee Street Apartments
Parmelee Street Apartments is a mixed use infill project that involved the vertical addition of four new stories atop an existing two story masonry building. Located on Massachusetts Avenue in Boston’s South End, the project presented significant design and construction challenges due to its zero lot line condition and constrained urban site.
The completed building totals approximately 12000 gross square feet and includes nine market rate residential units above a ground floor commercial space. The new addition was carefully integrated with the existing structure, requiring detailed coordination of structural reinforcement, envelope transitions, and vertical circulation systems.
As both Design Architect and Construction Manager, Stack managed all phases of the project from initial feasibility through completion. The full project timeline was 11 months from start to occupancy, with construction sequencing and logistics tailored to the constraints of the site and the active urban context.
Parmelee Street Apartments is an example of targeted urban densification, combining adaptive reuse with new construction to deliver housing and commercial space within the fabric of a historic neighborhood.
